Bio

Joe-Pietro Abela is a music composer, producer, arranger, orchestrator, and multi-instrumentalist.

He was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. He started his “official” musical journey at the age of 12. He started playing guitar, and quickly developed a passion for music, by sharpening his listening and performance skills through several different instruments, such as piano, bass, drums, saxophone, ukulele and the oud.

When someone asks me when I started getting involved in music, I trace it back to the old cartoons and TV shows I used to watch as a kid. Shows like “Looney Toons” and “Tom & Jerry” have been major contributors in building my very own musical repertoire, by introducing me to classical music married to incredible visuals, at a very early age.

He studied Music Production at BIMM London, then completed his masters in Scoring for film, TV and video games at Berklee College of Music, where he co-composed music for the ESAT published video game “Tech Clash”. He has then worked in several domains of the music industry, most notabely alongside renowned Spanish film composer Lucas Vidal, on two Netflix series, “Algiuen Tiene que Morir” and “Favoritos de Midas”, as well as the Movistar series “Dime Qiuen Soy”. He has written music for several advertisement campaigns and promotional videos, and continues to expand his professional repertoire with the introduction of musical theatre. He is the acting music supervisor for the Pierre Sadek Foundation in Lebanon. He has conducted orchestral recording sessions, in Valencia, London and Budapest and has also performed with several bands and orchestras in the US, the UK, Lebanon and Spain.

I really discovered my passion for film music while I was studying in London. It hit me like a brick. I always felt like the music in my head was kind of “situational”, if that makes any sense, and it felt weird that I hadn’t thought about it sooner. But this revelation, alongside my experiences so far are the driving forces that make me pursue this profession further, and give it my all.
